A Very Happy New Year to All

Wishing a very Happy New Year to all of our customers; old and new alike.  The end of 2014 was exceptionally busy, promoting the beef, setting up a floristry business and even diversifying into Turkeys.  Our six perky turkeys saw a swift farewell a few days before Christmas and we’ve had some wonderful feedback regarding their taste and succulence.  Watch this space and get your orders in early for next year!  2014 also saw a change in the way we advertise, the development of new products along with opportunities to get out and about showcasing our grass-fed Aberdeen Angus Beef.  We were delighted to receive five stars following the environmental inspection of our home food premises and look forward to making more complimentary products and attending local food markets with our home-cooked beef stews and curries.

Our premium beef has been selling exceptionally well of late, so much so that we are working hard to persuade Grandpa Perks to send another couple of cows to be butchered as soon as possible.  In the meantime we have a selection of beef still available along with a limited number of deluxe selection boxes.  Our beef continues to be priced extremely competitively as we understand that this is often the crucial factor in customers being able to purchase local and ethically reared beef.

2015 looks to be another busy year, building on recent successes and making further developments.  Ideas for the future include glamping on the paddock, the addition of lambs/pigs to the farm, liaising with local eateries and even creating our own 100% beef doggie treats.  We also plan to continue to run monthly special offers on our beef to tie in with special occasions and find more time to utilise facebook and twitter as mechanisms through which we can raise awareness of who we are and what we do.   Keep an eye out for our updates and please continue to tell your friends all about us.  Looking forward to a very happy new year and wishing you all the same!! Price Comparisons – Take That Mr Tesco!

At Sam Perks Beef we know that our customers choose our product not only for the fantastic flavour but because they are looking to support local farmers and care about where their meat comes from and how the animals are cared for prior to slaughter. However we also know that times are tough and most of us need to make our money stretch. Therefore we thought you might be interested to know how our prices compare with that of the mass-produced beef found in the supermarket aisle. Tesco sells rump steak for £15.39 per kg. This is their cheapest rump steak from countries unknown. Their “finest” rump steak costs £18.00 per kg, from British animals. Sam Perks rump steak – we only sell finest!! – is £14.44 per kg. Including delivery locally to Lowestoft, Suffolk. It is a myth that buying good quality meat from local farmers is more expensive. You just need to know where to shop!  Head over to our facebook page; Sam Perks Beef for some more information.

Busy busy…

Another busy week in Blundeston; a glut of beetroots from the allotment provided an opportunity for some experimental cooking…beetroot and ginger chocolate brownies received mixed reviews.  Grandpa Perks loved them (but didn’t know about the beetroot.)   Younger generation thought they contained blood!  A new log supplier has been found so we are able to continue diversifying; offering good quality, split, hardwood logs from renewable sources for delivery.  A new calf was born on Wednesday, late in the year, but always welcomed.   He’ll have a couple of weeks finding his feet at home with Mum before all his aunties and cousins return home from grazing out on the marshes.  We have been busy trying to secure new outlets for selling our prime beef, contacting various farmers markets etc.  This would be a new way of selling for us but suspect the smell of freshly cooked beef sausage samples could be a winner.   Also thinking of ways to market our beef in advance of Christmas; any suggestions of things we could include in our Christmas beef hampers would be welcomed!

Special Beef Offers!

We are clearing space in our freezers ready for when we send our next two members of the herd to be butchered.  Never a nice time but necessary as we can’t afford to keep 80 pet cows!  Our Aberdeen Angus cattle always go away in pairs as this helps to keep them calm, therefore we need to create some storage space .  We have three joints of topside and one of silverside all with 10% off.  In addition we have a few packs of beef sausages (8 in a pack and gorgeous in casseroles) and burgers (4 in a pack) available.  Sausages and burgers are priced at £3.30 a pack and for a limited time only if you buy two or more packs we will include – FREE OF CHARGE – your choice of one of the following; oxtail, beef liver, beef tongue or beef heart.  Lots of recipe ideas online.  All beef delivered locally free of charge.  Please find Sam Perks Beef on facebook or contact via our “Contact Us” page at http://www.blundestonfarm.wordpress.com

Lots of developments

A lovely sunny Sunday spent at Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival at Snape Maltings.  Partaking in lots of free samples, building relationships with other local businesses and eyeing up the competition.  Hoping to have a Sam Perks Beef stall next year!

Newest addition to the Perks family “Camilla” should be arriving at the weekend.  Shall be surprised if anyone can guess what she is!

Baby Turkeys arriving soon as well, well done Uncle Daniel for volunteering to assist in “Project Turkey!” xx
